Big Jim was again pulled up for Better Days in the encore. See the video here.
But it seems the boys saved the best for
last with an amazing show at Glasgow's Carling Academy on the 20th:

Money To Burn, Girls In Love (first ever live performance!),

Former Gun drummer Scott Shield was brought out to play on 'Better Days' which was a surprise and treat. The bands they played a 6 song mini-set at the aftershow in Rockers later that night which included Dante singing 'Fight For Your Right'...plus Steal Your Fire, Better Days, Word Up, Don't Say It's Over and Shame On You....

17th December 2008
Gun rocked The Tackaroo in Cannock last night with another 70 minute set (the same as the previous nights). The were twice as good as Monday night-the sound was ace, the crowd were great and the band themselves seemed to have a blast. Awesome stuff and it bodes well for London and Glasgow.....
16th December 2008

10th December 2008

(l-r Toby Jepson, Bruce John Dickinson, Mark Plunkett, Jimmy Dickinson)
Together in the same room for the first time since 1994 (so I'm told); the Little Angels all met up at Michael Lee's funeral in Darlington last week. Jimmy Page was also in attendance.
25th November 2008
It is with great sadness that I report the death of Little Angels' drummer Michael Lee. As well as been their drummer he also found fame drumming with Page and Plant, The Cult, Echo And The Bunnymen and a reformed Thin Lizzy. He died peacefully in his sleep sometime on Sunday evening/Monday morning.
Michael joined the Angels on 16th August 1988; he was there for their first single '90 In The Shade', the Big Bad EP and played on the debut album 'Don't Prey For Me'. He was a fantastic drummer and will be sorely missed. RIP.

Michael Lee Born: 19th November 1969 Died: 24th November 2008 |
Toby also posted the following message on MySpace/His forum...
"I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to Michael Lee’s family at their loss.
I met Mike for the first time back in 1988/89 when the Little Angels were seeking a new drummer. We had all but given up hope of finding anyone that could do the job. He arrived last in the only clothes he owned, a pair of sticks and a huge grin; anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Mike will know what I mean. He then proceeded to play the life out of the rubbish kit we had hired for the auditions. He was so good that he actually made me laugh! It was the only honest reaction I could muster. I had never experienced raw unadulterated talent like that nor have I since; it was an incredible display that quite simply took my breath away. He was awesome to behold. He was simply one of, if not the greatest drummer of his generation. He had everything: groove, power, musical precision, technical ability, sass and he made it all look so easy.
When he left the band and went on to achieve the heights he did with The Cult, Page and Plant, Echo and the Bunnymen and most recently Thin Lizzy and Ian Gillan. We lost touch but I followed his career from a far and was sad when he seemed to have stopped playing and dropped off the radar. I know, like us all, he had his problems and demons, but I choose to remember, and will never forget that fun lovin’ easy going lad that seemed to be about 100 feet tall…
The world has lost a true musical genius and a wonderfully eccentric character. It was a privilege to have worked with him. RIP"
Thanx to Robin Ellwood who was lucky enough to meet Michael a few months ago in Darlington and have this picture taken with him:
6th November 2008
Toby and Jools will be supporting Lauren Harris at the Cathouse in Glasgow on 10th December! They will also join her on-stage for 'Steal Your Fire' during her set! Click here for tickets (they're only £7.50 each!)....
1st November 2008
Gun rocked The Garage in Glasgow for the second time this year on Thursday with a Rock Radio sponsored gig apparently in promotion of The Rocker. The 80 minute set ran:
Welcome To The Real World
Don't Say It's Over
Money To Burn
Better Days
Taking On The World
Inside Out ~ So Lonely
Something Worthwhile
Word Up
Crazy You
Steal Your Fire
---
Money (Everybody Loves Her)
Shame On You
---
Fight For The Right (To Party) *
* featured Dante on vocals and Toby playing bass guitar. The boys were also joined by a keyboard player who may or may not have been called Greg.
I was also able to get some info from Toby regarding EP3 (three tracks practically finished and another two over 50% done; featuring Matt E on drums and Toby basically doing everything else) and the DVD (finished-sorting out the details with Townsend about how/when to release it..)
Oh, and Toby described one of the three finished tracks as "one of the best I've ever recorded". Sounds good to me.
Finally, all being well - there will be a brand new Gun album next year.
18th October 2008
Two Warm-up shows for the 'Taking On The World' gigs have been announced - Vivaz in Scarborough on 15th December 2008 and The Tackaroo in Cannock in the 16th December 2008. The band have reported that the warm-up gigs will be definitely content to the main shows. Both venues should be familiar to Toby fans......
Tickets from Townsend...
Also;
Alan Thornton has announced that he is to leave his position as
GUN drummer due to personal reasons. Al made the announcement through the
official GUN Myspace page:
The band would like to sadly announce the departure of drummer Al Thornton who
leaves for personal reasons. Al Said,
"I have some personal stuff to deal with at the moment and these leave me little time to give 100 percent to the band. It's not what I want but, unfortunately, it's something I have to do right now. It's a real shame cos I was there way back at the start with Jools and I have a real passion for GUN but it can't be helped. I know Gordon, who has been brought in to replace me, very well and I know he's a great drummer and will do the biz for the boys superbly. I had great fun playing with the lads again and wish them all the greatest of luck for the future. My heart will always be GUN but, no doubt, I'll be back playing in the not too distant future, so keep an eye out. Thanks guys and best of luck."
The band wishes Alan well for the future. He is to be replaced
by Glaswegian player Gordon McNeil.

Well, my 30th birthday present from the band was a very enjoyable set on Clyde Radio tonight. The tracks played were Welcome To The Real World, Better Days, Don't Say It's Over, Shame On You, Steal Your Fire and Word Up. And it sounded ace! bodes well for Rockers and T in the Park next weekend. And 'Don't Say It's Over' is rapidly becoming my favourite Gun song.

The next three tracks from Milton Keynes are up on the Music page, as well as the entire Gun set from Manchester....enjoy....!

And I've finally had something resembling enough time to type up the Angels bits and Toby's quotes from April's Classic Rock magazine.
|
""We believed we had the biggest balls on the planet" says Toby Jepson (Little Angels). "It's part of growing up in Scarborough. The place itself generated a feeling that everything was possible. We emerged out of this white middle-class England with all the energy in the world, and watched Bon Jovi explode on the scene and wanted to be that. We had no streetwise sense at all. I wanted to be Bon Jovi. I'll tell you why - we always used to moan, there's never any rock on the radio, never any on TV. We'd all cram into each other's houses to watch The Tube and hope there'd be a metal band on, and there never was. I think they did a Motley Crue special once and we couldn't believe it. So when Bon Jovi happened they blew open the doors. It was okay to play guitar and look like a girl." |
| "I remember Bruce [Dickinson, Little Angels' guitarist] turning up in a codpeice because he'd got this week's Kerrang! and there was Manowar on the cover. He had this fur codpiece he'd made. We said: 'Bruce, maybe not...' I remember going on stage in my dad's ruffled shirt. Daft. We had an idea that we should be dressing up, and we approximated it" |
| "Every single time we picked up Kerrang! everything was in the Marquee," says Toby Jepson. Me and Bruce got on a National Rapide bus and stayed with some friends of his father in St John's Wood. We walked the streets of London for four days. Everywhere there was a sign that said live music, we walked in and asked if we could play. Being as green as grass we had no idea they were going to say: 'Well yeah - if you pay..'" |
| "GN'R were the greatest band I've ever seen live," says Toby Jepson. "It made us realise what a real band was about. It was a turning point. We went down there thinking: "Who are this band? They're gonna be rubbish.' We went back to Scarborough thinking: 'You know what? That was the real deal.'" |
| "My experience of the major label system was that we were 'the rock band' at Polydor. As we got a bit older and a bit wiser we realised they were trying to flog us as a pop band. It was very much 'Let's try and make them look like skaters or surf dudes'. We'd go into A&R meetings and ask: 'What do you think of the demos?' And the A&R guy would go: 'I dunno, what do you think?'" |
| "It might sound hopelessly naive, but I don't really know why the Little Angels split up. We were treading the boards at the Albert Hall, we'd just had a No. 1 record and toured with Van Halen and Bon Jovi. I can remember the discussions were: 'America's never going to accept you because of Nirvana.' But we were always very eclectic and we could have emerged with a record that sounded different. I think we could have survived." |
| "I came out bereft that we'd split up and for the next six months, I didn't know what had hit me. I'd spent 10 years working, and it had come to nothing. I put out my solo album and it was a disaster. I thought to myself: 'Man, this business is fucking tough...' I ended up in a van, having to tour-manage myself. It was a stark world. I realised I hadn't understood the business at all." |
| The word is that Little Angels won't reform - Bruce Dickinson is now a successful music teacher, Mark Plunkett manages Ronan Keating and Mark Richardson now plays in Feeder. Toby is writing songs, singing with Fastway, and appeared with Gun at their recent re-formation show. "I'm absolutely committed to re-entering this business," says Toby Jepson. "I feel a lot more ready for it now. What it's made me realise is that there is a market for classic rock. I said to Steve, my manager, the other day: 'What I am is a good rock singer'. |
| "You have to have an appreciation of what you're good at because at this age it's all you've got, and I'm a rock singer." |
| Little Angels - Don't Pray For Me: The big chorus wasn't an entirely American phenomenon. |
5th June 2008
The Rock and Blues Festival (at which Fastway are playing) is now back-on! See their website at www.rockandblues.uk.com for information/tickets etc. It's a two day event 25th and 26th July 2008 - Fastway are playing on Saturday 26th July.

Toby (with Gun) played a blinder in Manchester yesterday celebrating the launch of Rock Radio's Manchester station. Organisers were expecting about 1,000. Apparently they stopped counting at 3,000! The 40 minute set featured:
More gigs are planned but the next confirmed show is T In The Park. See here for some Gun fans re-actions to the show. Seems Toby is being well-received though that shouldn't surprise any of you...... |

30th April 2008
Toby is now confirmed as the new lead singer for Gun following his debut with them in January. They are playing Manchester (as below), T In The Park on 10th July 2008 and have also mentioned new material and a headlining tour as well as a few other festival appearances.....
In celebration/happy co-incidence I have uploaded Gun (with Toby of course!) playing Better Days to the Music and TJTV pages.....as well as the usual monthly solo MP3s.....enjoy!
24th April 2008
Toby is confirmed to play at Rock Radio's Manchester launch party with Gun on 5th May 2008. It's a free for all in Manchester city centre and Gun will be onstage about 4pm for 45 minutes.........see you there!!
4th April 2008
Last week Toby posted an update on his website - link here. The gist is that this year will be more focused on Fastway and Gun than the solo stuff; although EP3 of Guitar, Bass And Drums is definitely coming.....
I've uploaded the next three tracks from Milton Keynes to the Music page for you to enjoy, including an awesome Somebody Else......
20th March 2008
Toby features quite a lot in this months (April 2008) Classic Rock magazine. There's a 6 page feature on "Brit-Rock" which includes several quotes from Toby (taken from an interview from March last year!) as well as a review of The Garage gig in Glasgow on 10th January 2008.
"The ever-likable Toby Jepson does a short, well-received acoustic set. His big moment is yet to come."
And is equally positive about his turn fronting Gun too. The second last paragraph of the review reads...
"Before the gig, Toby downplayed any suggestions that this could be a permanent move. After the gig, people around him are talking about tours and putting big venues on hold and, and... we'll see."
There's also a small picture of Toby in the now-famous kilt, as well as few other pics from the show including Thunder.

I've uploaded Toby, Bruce and Rich playing 'Womankind' on MTV's Most Wanted in 1993 to YouTube. Watch the video on TJTV or download the remastered MP3 on the Music page.....
4th March 2008
I know the news is a little quiet at the moment but I'm told it's all go behind the scenes, EP3 hasn't been forgotten for a start!
In the meantime, here are the first three live tracks uploaded from The Pitz, Milton Keynes on 14th September 2008

31st January 2008
Had a lot of requests for this so I'm please to announce that you can now download the three acoustic tracks played by Toby at The Garage in Glasgow on 10th January 2008 on the music page.

Also, if anyone is interested.....I am currently in the process of transferring all my old Little Angels videos onto DVD with a view to making a compilation DVD. So if anyone has any footage they'd like to contribute please email me.....
14th January 2008
On 10th January 2008 Toby played at The Garage in Glasgow. Twice in fact! Firstly a short acoustic set on his own, and then fronting Gun. Gun had recently received an award from RockRadio who asked them to play at their 1st Anniversary bash; original Gun frontman Mark Rankin was unavailable/unwilling to do it so Toby got a call and fronted instead!
Now rumours are flying around about a Gun re-union tour. Linky here.

18th January 2006
Last night was a blast! Vivaz in Scarborough got rocked by the band and it was great to see Toby and the guys back on stage finally. Full review on on the Tourography page.
A few people asked me about this last night I'll mention it here; Nick will be selling copies of two of his solo albums (Kiss My Stupid Mouth and Godspeed) at the shows, priced £8 each (I think!). They both showcase Nick's amazing guitar playing which you are familiar with as well as his piano playing, song-writing and singing skills which are equally good. The albums are less main-stream than Toby's music but very good nonetheless, best described as a mixture of Frank Zappa, XTC, Francis Dunnery whilst retaining their own individuality!

For those of you who haven't heard about this; Toby sang vocals on this track for the band in 1993.

From an email Toby sent out today
"NEW ALBUM COMING...NEW ALBUM COMING...NEW ALBUM COMING...NEW ALBUM COMING...NEW ALBUM COMING...
At long last we can announce the imminent release of Toby's final album. The release will be a double album, one CD will be a full live album recorded at Nottingham's Rock City Venue on the tour this time last year, and the second CD will be 14 tracks from various stages in Toby's career post Angels, illustrating his eclectic writing style. There is something for everyone, with many styles of recording demonstrated and we are sure it will enthral, delight and surprise in equal measure. There are also 3 tracks included on the live album recorded absolutely live in the studio, rough mixes only, but chosen by Toby to bookend the two albums.
The album will be called: 'Twisted Rhapsodies' and is the debut release from the newly created record company arm of Townsend Records and will be available through the web site via the usual 'on-line' link to 'townsendrecords.co.uk' or simply by visiting townsendrecords.co.uk and typing in Toby Jepson in the songwriters search section.
Townsend records will be emailing you all very soon with the planned date of release as we are still adding the finishing touches to the sleeve and details.

Sad news today unfortunately - Toby has announced his decision to leave the music industry (see his email below). I intend to keep this website open and I'll provide live songs for download periodically (both Toby and Angels stuff).
Toby's email reads
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce my immediate withdrawal from the music industry.
This may come as a shock to you but I am afraid I have no option. I will try to explain.
As you may have read in the press over the last few months, the industry is under enormous strain, with large and small operators unable to function and going out of business due to the changing landscape.
I have been involved in the music business for almost 16 years and have never seen such a change and it simply means that, with all the best of intentions, someone like me operating at such a low level, cannot find the support within the industry base necessary to sustain a company intent on trying to achieve the things we set out to achieve.
I went into the re-start of my music career with both eyes open, fully aware of the risks and all guns blazing ready to take on the world. Two tours, one EP and a reasonably successful web site later, I find that I am no nearer even the first step to getting to where I need to be. The problems are many, most of it centered on the cost of touring and paying the personnel to do the necessary duties. The crux of the problem is that I have simply not sold enough records to keep the company afloat.
There are many reasons for this, lack of exposure due to the cost of advertising, slow uptake due to the time it took to let the fans know I was back, poor radio/magazine coverage etc, but the fact is that I simply cannot MAKE people buy into me or my stuff.
Our plan after the EP was to seek out a partner to help finance the making of an album, it is a catch 22 situation; without an album my agent won’t put me out on tour as there is nothing to promote and so stimulate interest from the fans, but touring is the only real way I have to generate that interest.
From the very beginning of this project I have scoured every country and virtually every indie and major record label on the planet, in an attempt to find such a partner, but to no avail.
I have always tried to remain level headed and realistic about my position. The fact is that I do know the mechanisms of this business and most of it is hidden from view. The music business is dense and wide reaching, as well as very politically motivated. It takes a variety if things to all come together to stimulate any kind of momentum and I have simply not set those fires alight this time. It would also be naïve to assume that I can do this totally independent of outside help, even though it was always my intention to remain as independent as possible. Even the most independent companies have great distribution, large investment usually from major companies, and a string of other artists to help keep the company coffers turning.
I have championed you the fans and you have been tremendous, coming to the gigs and being so unbelievably supportive, it is something I and the boys in the band will never forget and it is what makes this decision so hard for me.
As a final departing shot, I intend to release a double album of all the tracks that have never seen the light of day, finished masters, demo's etc and also the live stuff from Rock City in July last year, it will be released through Townsend records on-line site, details will be forwarded to you in due course should you feel compelled to buy.
All that remains for me to say is an enormous ‘thank you’ and a heavy hearted ‘we tried’
I sincerely hope you can understand the problems we have had to face and realise what a hard decision it has been for me to take.
I wish you all the best in the world and invite you to comment if you wish on the situation. Please do not reply to the PO Box, please email if you wish."

Refresh is out now!
17th February 2002
Sample of the new Toby track, 'Breakdown', is now available for download on the music page <-----
5th February 2002
'REFRESH' EP Track listing:
1. Unwind
2. Breakdown
3. Forgiveness
4. Refresh Yourself
5. My Aim Is True
Tentative release date is the 22nd February. One track has been left off and the EP is now a 5 track, presumably either 'Pure' or 'I Never Lied To You, I Just Didn't Tell The Truth' - both of which were recorded during the sessions. In which case I suggest Toby sell the latter to Meatloaf - looks like one of his song titles after all!
